LOCATION CHANGE !!!!!

In 2019 house cinema moved to the new shopping complex SAMYAN MITRTOWN - MRT Sam Yan, pretty central.
5th floor, nice and new, clean, great toilets - and a cafe.

Thoughtful Movies with ambience for film lovers

Accidentally found this theater when looking for a recent movie that was no longer at the glitzy multi-screen palaces where smiling staff appear to be just place-holders until their robot replacements arrive. House Rama RCA (officially Royal City Avenue, but no one calls it that) has only two screens and a small friendly staff. There is a refreshment stand which doesn’t charge exorbitant prices and a large sitting area with a few reference books where you or you and your friends can quietly discuss the film. The starting time for a film is real. Unlike other cinemas where the movie starts after you’re forced to watch 25 minutes of commercials. The downside is the House RCA isn’t easy to find with public transportation, but you’ll be rewarded with the quality of the films shown. We used a canal boat to quickly get to the area, but canal boats don’t operate after 8:00pm. A bus on Petchaburi can return you to the MRT subway at Pra Rama 9. If the movie is in English, there will be Thai subtitles. If it is in Japanese, it may or may not have English subtitles. You can make a reservation by phone. The 2 screening rooms are not large. The seating is well marked. There is a Tops supermarket with a coffee shop and a bakery on the first floor. House RCA is on the third floor.

Highly recommend

In addition to the cheap price (140 baht for a movie ticket), the concessions are incredibly cheap. Hard to believe, but we had a normal size popcorn, two waters, and a cola for 90 baht.

Very nice art cinema

With the increasingly boring movies at major cineplexes in town, House Rama at RCA is probably the best art cinema in Southeast Asia. They have interesting films that you would not see at other cinemas. But location is a bit far from our place, so we have to make it a day outing with watching at least 2 films, lunch/dinner there, plus grocery shopping at Tops Market. Ticket for cinema is 140baht now.

Independent movie theatre

In this movie theatre you can watch movies which are not shown by the big chains such as Major Cineplex. It is not easy to find, but if they show a movie you really want to see, it is worth going. Nearest MRT stations: Phra Ram 9 and Petchaburi. One ticket: TB 140. Check out their website to see what is on here.

Nice independent theater

I went for the first time to see Shin Godzilla. This was the only theater showing it. There are 2 theaters, with nice sized screens and very good picture quality and sound. The seats are comfortable. The refreshment stand is small, they don’t have ice for drinks. THey have canned sodas, popcorn, candy, chips. Prices are low. There are some nice seating areas while waiting for a show, and there is a small library of books, mostly English and about movies and art. The floor below the theater has a go-kart place. The first floor has aerial aerobics. From the MRT it was a 60 baht moto ride. There is free parking for cars and motorbikes..
